Participants — Space Is Limited

This Is Not a Retreat. It Is the Next Level.

Participants leave not just with skills, but with a pitch, a pipeline, and a plan.

Eight LaddHer Up retreats. More than 550 lawyers. A community that entered the program as ambitious associates and is now rising to senior associate, of counsel, and partner — carrying with them the skills, relationships, and confidence that LaddHer Up built.

That progression is not an endpoint. It is an invitation.

The Rainmaker Rung is Ms. JD’s recognition that LaddHer Up alumni now stand at a new threshold that requires a new level of support. The leadership challenges of a senior associate or junior partner are categorically different from those of an associate earlier in a career. The stakes are higher. The skills required are more sophisticated. And the window for building a sustainable book of business is open right now.

This program takes LaddHer Up to the next level of leadership. Participants leave not just with skills, but with a pitch, a pipeline, and a plan.

You Are Ready for the Rainmaker Rung If…

You completed a LaddHer Up retreat and have promoted to senior associate, of counsel, or junior partner.

You are actively building — or know you should be building — a book of business and want structured support to do it.

You are prepared to pitch your practice to general counsel for real matters and receive candid, professional feedback.

Not sure if you qualify? Email us at programs@msjd.org.

20-24 Participants

Small enough for genuine relationships. Large enough for a meaningful pitch day audience.

LaddHer Up Alumni Only

This cohort is built on a shared foundation. Participants already speak the same language.

Three Sessions. One Cohort. One Clear Direction.

SESSION 1  —  VIRTUAL  |  September 15, 2026  |  6:00–9:00 PM ET

The Business Case for You

The foundation session reorients participants away from generic networking advice and toward a rigorous, strategic understanding of their own value proposition.

Topics:

  • The Architecture of a Book of Business: how business actually moves in law firms: referral networks, client loyalty, lateral hiring signals, and the long game of relationship investment
  • Personal Brand at the Partner Level: what general counsel actually buy, and how to articulate the specific intersection of expertise, relationships, and perspective that no one else offers
  • Business Development Planning That Actually Gets Done: a practical 90-day framework tied to three priority relationships and one visibility initiative

SESSION 2 — VIRTUAL | October 13, 2026 | 6:00–9:00 PM ET

The Pitch and the Platform

Session 2 shifts from strategy to execution — specifically, the skills of pitching, presenting, and building visibility that compound over time.

Topics:

  • The Art of the Client Conversation: moving from keeping in touch to conversations that deepen trust and surface opportunity
  • Winning Pitches: structure, storytelling, and handling the question you hoped they would not ask. Each participant develops a two-minute thesis pitch to refine for the in-person event.
  • Platform Building in the Legal Profession: thought leadership as a business development asset: speaking, writing, convening, and social presence

SESSION 3 — IN PERSON | November 11, 2026 | 12:00–5:00 PM | Silverado Resort, Napa Valley

The Rainmaker Intensive

Hosted at the LaddHer Up retreat venue the day before the broader retreat begins, the Intensive is the program’s most consequential session. Participants arrive as a cohort, giving them immediate connection heading into LaddHer Up itself.

Agenda:

  • 12:00–12:45 PM: Welcome Lunch with faculty and GC guests
  • 12:45–2:15 PM: The Pitch Room: each participant delivers a formal five-to-seven-minute pitch to a panel of general counsel with real matters actively under consideration. Live, candid feedback follows each pitch.
  • 2:30–3:30 PM: The Long Game: a facilitated peer discussion on sustaining momentum at the senior level
  • 3:30–4:15 PM: Sponsorship, Influence, and the Politics of Advancement: a candid conversation on sponsors versus mentors, origination credit, and compensation dynamics
  • 4:15–5:00 PM: Cohort Commitments and Celebration

Note: The Rainmaker Intensive immediately precedes LaddHer Up Napa 2026 (November 11–13). Rainmaker participants receive an immediate warm introduction to the broader LaddHer Up community.

Leave With a Pitch, a Pipeline, and a Plan.

Every participant in the Rainmaker Rung completes the program with five concrete deliverables:

1. A Written 90-Day Business Development Plan

Tied to three priority relationships and one visibility initiative. Ready to execute on the day the program ends.

2. A Personal Leadership Thesis

A one-paragraph articulation of the specific intersection of expertise, relationships, and perspective that distinguishes you from every other attorney in your practice area.

3. A Refined, GC-Tested Client Pitch

Workshopped across both virtual sessions and delivered live to a panel of general counsel at the Napa Intensive. Not a practice exercise — a real business opportunity.

4. One Platform Initiative in Progress

A speaking target, article topic, or panel to propose — with an action plan built during the program and accountability built into the cohort.

5. A Cohort of 20+ Peer Relationships

Senior associate-to-partner level peers across firms — formed in the context of genuine professional vulnerability and shared ambition. These are not conference connections.

Why Your Firm Should Invest in This Program

The Rainmaker Rung is an executive education investment in the revenue-generating potential of your senior associates and junior partners. It is designed to produce a measurable return.

THE BUSINESS CASE

  • Senior associates who develop books of business become partners — and partners who build client relationships reduce institutional risk and improve retention.
  • The Rainmaker Rung provides structured, accountable business development support that most firms cannot replicate internally at this career stage.
  • Participants return with a tested client pitch, a 90-day BD plan, and a cross-firm peer network at the senior associate-to-partner level.
  • GC panel participation provides direct exposure to general counsel actively seeking to diversify their outside counsel relationships.
  • Investment at this career stage signals a genuine retention commitment at the moment the attrition risk is highest.

WHAT FIRM PARTICIPATING LAW FIRMS RECEIVE

  • Recognition in all program materials and at the Rainmaker Intensive
  • Recognition in LaddHer Up Napa program materials
  • Post-program report on cohort outcomes and participant commitments
  • Relationship-building between cohort participants and GC/CLO attendees at LaddHer Up Napa immediately following the Rainmaker Rung

A Note on Investment

At $8,500 per participant -- comparable to the cost of a single client entertainment event -- the Rainmaker Rung represents one of the highest-leverage professional development investments available to law firms sponsoring the advancement of their senior attorneys. Attorneys who build books of business at this stage will be generating revenue for the next two decades.
